Our City of Newark Seniors are just as important if not more, than our students. They hold a wealth of knowledge and wisdom we need to tap into. Determining their needs and creating solutions for them is part of my Bridge the Gap plan which includes the following:
INCLUSION: Having a proactive strategy to ensure Seniors are represented during the City of Newark’s decision-making process is imperative when creating a bridged gap City. Working with the Senior Center, Senior Housing and other the Country Club to create engagement and inclusion is part of my strategy. This would include using outlets such as these to systematically provide updates and announcements for events, important decisions for them to participate and be a voice and other opportunities.
SENIORS to SENIORS: Creating a Senior (senior resident) 2 Senior (senior UD student) program will foster an inclusive community and the transference of knowledge and wisdom for both generations. Designed as a mentoring program that as advantageous for all generations involved. Some of our Seniors do not have consistent visitors or family involvement. This could be a life-changing opportunity on both sides.
